Indications

Fast relief from seasonal allergic rhinitis
Alleviates symptoms of perennial allergic rhinitis
Effective against skin allergies including chronic urticaria
Relieves symptoms of allergic rhinitis like sneezing and itching
Indicated in idiopathic urticaria
Symptomatic relief in children over 2 years for seasonal allergic rhinitis

Pharmacology

Preparation of Loratadine
Non-sedative histamine H1 receptor antagonist
Long-acting tricyclic antihistamine
Selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonistic activity
Rapid and long-lasting effect allowing once-a-day administration

Dosage & Administration

Adult dosage: One Loratadine tablet once daily
Morning administration preferred
Children 2-12 years: Dosage based on body weight
Not recommended for children below 2 years of age

Interaction

No reports of hazardous interactions with other drugs
No potentiating effects when administered with alcohol
Concomitant therapy with certain drugs may elevate plasma concentrations

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity or idiosyncrasy to components

Incidence of adverse events comparable to placebo
No sedation or anticholinergic effects observed in clinical studies

Pregnancy & Lactation

Not advisable during pregnancy due to lack of experience
Excreted in breast milk in a very small amount, nursing mothers advised not to take the drug

Caution in patients with liver impairment or renal insufficiency

Reported effects in adults and children with overdose
