Indications

  • Treatment of hypertension
  • Reduction of stroke risk in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy

Pharmacology

  • Losartan as a vasoconstrictor blocker
  • Hydrochlorothiazide as a thiazide diuretic
  • Renal tubular mechanisms affected by thiazides

Dosage

  • Usual starting dose of 50/12.5 once daily
  • Maximum dose of 100/25 once daily
  • Antihypertensive effect achieved within three weeks

Administration

  • Can be administered with other antihypertensive agents
  • Can be taken with or without food

Interaction

  • No significant drug-drug interactions for Losartan
  • Potential interactions with Hydrochlorothiazide
  • Dosage adjustment of antidiabetic drugs may be required
