Osartil Plus 100 mg+25 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Treatment of hypertension
• Risk reduction for stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy

Pharmacology

• Inhibition of vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects
• Selective blocking of angiotensin II binding to AT1 receptor
• Thiazide diuretic effect on renal tubular electrolyte reabsorption

Dosage

• Usual starting dose of 50/12.5 is one tablet once daily
• Maximum dose is 100/25 once daily
• Antihypertensive effect attained within three weeks

Administration

• Can be administered with or without food
• May be administered with other antihypertensive agents

Interaction

• Potential interactions with potassium-sparing diuretics and potassium supplements
• Interaction with antidiabetic drugs
• Additive effect with other antihypertensive drugs
• Impaired absorption in the presence of anionic exchange resins

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
• Anuria
• Hypersensitivity to sulfonamide-derived drugs

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Should be avoided in pregnancy unless essential
• Not recommended in breastfeeding

Precautions & Warnings

• Hypersensitivity: Angiooedema
• Periodic determination of serum electrolytes
• Hypokalemia risk
• Impaired renal function risk
• Symptomatic hypotension risk

Use in Special Populations

• Usual regimens of therapy for patients with renal impairment with creatinine clearance >30 ml/min
• Loop diuretics preferred in severe renal impairment
• Not recommended for titration in patients with hepatic impairment
• Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients not established

Overdose Effects

• Manifestations include hypotension, tachycardia, bradycardia, electrolyte depletion
• Supportive treatment for symptomatic hypotension
