Indications

  • Peptic ulcer diseases
  • Gastroesophageal reflux diseases
  • Ulcer induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Eradication of Helicobacter pylori (in combination with antibiotics)
  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

Pharmacology

Proton pump inhibitor that suppresses final step in acid production

Dosage & Administration

  • 40 mg daily in the morning for benign gastric ulcer
  • 20-40 mg daily in the morning for GERD
  • 40 mg daily in the morning for duodenal ulcer
  • 40 mg twice daily in association with antimicrobial agents for duodenal ulcer and Helicobacter pylori
  • 20 mg daily prophylaxis for NSAID-associated ulcer
  • Initially 80 mg once daily for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

Interaction

No significant drug interactions observed in clinical studies

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • May increase risk of osteoporosis

Reconstitution

  • IV injection:
    • Given as slow intravenous injection
    • Solution obtained by adding 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection to the vial containing powder
    • IV infusion should be given over approximately 15 minutes
    • Reconstituted solution may be stored at room temperature for a maximum 4 hours
