Pharmacology

  • Combination of magaldrate and simethicone
  • Magaldrate (magnesium aluminium compound) for quick neutralization of gastric acid
  • Decreases activity of pepsin in gastric secretion
  • Simethicone enables gas bubble coalescence for relief from flatulence

Dosage & Administration

  • 1-4 chewable tablets after meals and at bedtime
  • 2-4 teaspoonfuls of suspension after meals and at bedtime

Interaction

  • Contraindicated with Tetracycline
  • May affect bio-availability or absorption of propranolol, isoniazid, prednisolone, naproxen

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to magnesium and aluminium
  • Impaired renal functions

Side Effects

  • Occasional gastrointestinal side-effects
  • Possible diarrhea, constipation, regurgitation with excessive consumption

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Use in pregnancy with caution and avoid excessive dosage
  • May pass into breast milk but no reported problems in nursing babies

  • Take care in decreased kidney function
  • Ensure normal phosphorus levels
  • Be cautious with weak individuals
