Description

Indications

  • Relieves constipation
  • Helps with heartburn, gas, and nausea
  • Indicated in acute and long-acting constipation
  • Useful in hyperacidity, peptic ulcer, and stomatitis

Pharmacology

  • Contains Magnesium Hydroxide
  • Has osmotic properties in the bowel
  • Converted into Magnesium Chloride in the stomach

Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: 2-4 tablespoonful with a full glass of water
  • Children (6-11 years): 1-2 tablespoonful with a full glass of water
  • Children (2-5 years): 1-3 teaspoonful with a full glass of water
  • Adults (as antacid): 1-3 teaspoonful up to 4 times daily with water
  • Children (6-12 years): ½-1 teaspoonful

Interaction

  • May decrease the absorption of other drugs like digoxin and antibiotics

Contraindications

  • Not for use where laxative is contraindicated
  • Long-term treatment contraindicated in renal failure patients

Side Effects

  • May cause diarrhea

Precautions & Warnings

  • Avoid in patients with renal and hepatic failure
  • Use cautiously in pregnancy
