Indications

Pharmacology
Bactericidal action by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis, Potent bactericidal activity against a broad spectrum of bacteria
Dosage
- Adults:
- Usual dose: 500 mg to 1 gm by intravenous administration every 8 hours
- Specific dosages for different infections
- Children:
- Dosage based on age and severity of infection
- Specific dosages for different infections
- Caution for children over 50 kg weight to use adult dosage
Administration
Intravenous Infusion over approximately 15-30 minutes or as intravenous bolus over 3-5 minutes
Interaction
Probenecid competes with Menem for active tubular secretion

Use in Special Populations
- Renal impairment: Dosage reduction
- Hepatic impairment: No dosage adjustments necessary
- Elderly: No dosage adjustments necessary unless creatinine clearance is less than 51 ml/min
- Children: Efficacy and tolerability in infants under 3 months not established

Reconstitution
- Intravenous bolus Administration: Reconstitute Menem with sterile water for injection
