Description

Methsolon is a potent anti-inflammatory steroid. It has greater anti-inflammatory potency than Prednisolone, even less tendency than prednisolone to induce sodium and water retention. The relative potency of Methsolon to Hydrocortisone is at least four to one.

Pharmacology

Dosage and Administration

  • Usual Range: 2-48 mg daily in divided doses
  • Anti-inflammatory or Immunosuppressive Initial Dosage: 4-48 mg per day, variable based on disease severity
  • Anti-inflammatory or Immunosuppressive Maintenance Dosage: Adjusted based on response, constant monitoring needed
  • Multiple Sclerosis Treatment: 160 mg for a week followed by 64 mg every other day for 1 month

  • Cautious use in patients with ocular herpes simplex
  • Careful observation of infants' and children's growth and development

Overdose Effects

Rare instances of acute toxicity and/or death. Supportive and symptomatic treatment recommended.
