Indications
- Adjunct to diet and exercise

Pharmacology
- Inhibition of alpha-amylase enzymes
- Delayed glucose absorption
- Lowering of postprandial hyperglycemia
- Additive effect with sulfonylureas, insulin, or metformin
Dosage & Administration
- Starting dosage of 25 mg three times daily
- Gradual dose titration for minimizing gastrointestinal side effects
- Adjustment based on postprandial glucose levels
- Maintenance dose range from 50 mg to 100 mg three times daily
Interaction
- Drugs causing hyperglycemia
- Closely observed for loss of blood glucose control
- Potential for hypoglycemia with sulfonylureas or insulin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug
- Diabetic ketoacidosis or cirrhosis
- Inflammatory bowel disease

Overdose Effects
