Indications
- Peptic ulcer diseases

Pharmacology
Proton pump inhibitor that suppresses the final step in gastric acid production by covalently binding to the H+/K+ATPase enzyme system at the surface of the gastric parietal cell.
Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration for various conditions
- IV injection for duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, prevention of rebleeding in peptic ulcer, prophylaxis of acid aspiration, and long-term management of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
Interaction
No significant drug interactions observed in clinical studies
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formulation
Side Effects
- Common: headache, diarrhea
- Rarely included: abdominal pain, flatulence, rash, insomnia, hyperglycemia
Pregnancy & Lactation
US FDA Pregnancy Category B. No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Excreted in human milk; decision to discontinue nursing or drug should be made considering the benefit of the drug to the mother
Precautions & Warnings
- Tablet should not be split, chewed or crushed
- Long-term therapy may lead to malabsorption of cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) and increase the risk of osteoporosis-related disorders
Overdose Effects
No known symptoms of overdosage in humans. Highly protein bound, not readily dialyzable
