Indications
- Early Menstrual Regulation (MR)
- Termination of pregnancy up to 9 weeks of gestation
Composition
- Box contains 2 blister strips
- 1 strip contains 1 tablet of Mifepristone INN 200 mg
- Another strip contains 4 tablets of Misoprostol USP 200 microgram each
Mode of Action
- Mifepristone has anti-progestational activity
- Mifepristone inhibits progesterone activity
- Misoprostol causes myometrial contraction
Dosage & Administration
- Mifepristone administration on Day 1
- Misoprostol administration on Day 2
- Post-treatment examination on Day 10 to 14
Interaction
- Mifepristone may be affected by Ketoconazole, Itraconazole, Erythromycin, and grapefruit juice
- Misoprostol does not interfere with aspirin effects
Contraindications
- Allergy to Mifepristone, Misoprostol, or prostaglandin
- Ectopic pregnancy
- Chronic adrenal failure
- Haemorrhagic disorders or concurrent anticoagulant therapy
- Inherited porphyria
Side Effects
- Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea with Mifepristone
- Gastro-intestinal side-effects like diarrhea and abdominal pain with Misoprostol
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Mifepristone is indicated for Menstrual Regulation (MR)
- Mifepristone may lead to fetal malformation
Precautions & Warnings
- Combination of Mifepristone & Misoprostol is specific to the patient
- Intra Uterine Device [IUD] should be removed before treatment
Use in Special Populations
- Decreased dose of Misoprostol in patients with hepatic impairment
- No routine dosage adjustment in older patients or patients with renal impairment
Overdose Effects
- No serious adverse reactions reported in tolerance studies with Mifepristone
- Clinical signs of overdose for Misoprostol
