Indications
- Prophylaxis of gastric and duodenal ulceration in NSAID users
- Healing of established NSAID-induced gastric and duodenal damage
- Induction of labor
- Prevention and treatment of postpartum hemorrhage
Pharmacology
- Misoprostol acid is responsible for clinical activity
- Has both antisecretory and mucosal protective properties
- Increases bicarbonate and mucus production in the gastric mucosa
Dosage & Administration
- 800 mcg daily for benign gastric and duodenal ulceration
- 200 mcg 2-4 times daily for prophylaxis of NSAID-induced ulcer
- 25 mcg in the posterior fornix of the vagina for induction of labor
- 600 mcg orally for prevention of postpartum hemorrhage
- 600-1000 mcg orally or rectally for treatment of postpartum hemorrhage
Interaction
No evidence of clinically significant interaction with other drugs

- Allergy to prostaglandins
- Pregnancy
