Indications
- Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of specified organisms
- Highly effective intraocular antibiotic to prevent postoperative bacterial endophthalmitis
Pharmacology
- Antimicrobial action results from inhibition of topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV
- DNA gyrase is involved in replication, transcription, and repair of bacterial DNA
- Topoisomerase IV plays a key role in the partitioning of the chromosomal DNA during bacterial cell division
Dosage & Administration
- Eye Drops: One drop in the affected eye 3 times per day for 7 days
- Eye Ointment: Thinly and evenly apply to the affected eye 3 times a day for first two days, and two times a day for next five days, or as advised by physician
- Intraocular injection: 0.2-0.4 ml dose prior to ocular surgery via intraocular route, final dose determined by the doctor
Interaction
- In vitro studies indicate P-Moxlocin does not inhibit certain cytochrome P450 isozymes
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with history of hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin, other quinolones, or any components in the medication
Side Effects
- Frequently reported ocular adverse events such as conjunctivitis, decreased visual acuity, dry eye
- Nonocular adverse events reported at a rate of 1-4% were fever, increased cough, infection, otitis media, etc.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Should be used during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
- Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing mother
Precautions & Warnings
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi
- If superinfection occurs, discontinue use and institute alternative therapy
- Patients should not wear contact lenses if they have signs and symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis

- Store below 25°C, do not freeze
- Store in cool and dry place, protected from light
- Keep out of the reach of children, do not touch dropper tip to any surface
- Do not use after one month of first opening
