Indications

Dosage & Administration
- Pathologic conditions with negative nitrogen balance: Recommended dose: 25-50 mg/week
- Selected cases of disseminated mammary carcinoma in women: Recommended dose: 50 mg/week
- Osteoporosis: Recommended dose: 50 mg/week
- Adequate nutrition required for optimal effect
- Administered by deep intramuscular injection
Interaction
May improve glucose tolerance and decrease the need for insulin in diabetics
Contraindications
Contraindicated in pregnancy, known or suspected carcinoma of the prostate or breast in males
Side Effects
- High dosages, prolonged treatment and/or frequent administration:
- Virilization
- Amenorrhea
- Inhibition of spermatogenesis
- Premature epiphyseal closure
- Fluid retention
Pregnancy & Lactation
Contraindicated during pregnancy due to possible masculinization of the foetus, insufficient data for breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitor patients with cardiac failure, renal dysfunction, hypertension, or migraine
- Monitor patients with incomplete statural growth
- Monitor patients with skeletal metastases of breast carcinoma
- Discourage use of anabolic steroids for enhancing athletic ability
Overdose Effects
Acute toxicity in animals is very low, no reports of acute overdosage in humans
