Indications
- Adjunct to specific therapies and dietary measures in pathologic conditions
- Palliative treatment of disseminated mammary carcinoma in women

Pharmacology
- Injectable anabolic preparation

Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose: 25-50 mg every week for specific conditions
- Administered by deep intramuscular injection

Interaction
- May improve glucose tolerance
- May decrease the need for insulin or other antidiabetic medicines in diabetics
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in pregnancy
- Contraindicated in known or suspected carcinoma of the prostate or breast in males
Side Effects
- Virilisation in sensitive women and prepubertal boys
- Hoarseness, acne, hirsutism, and increased libido
- Amenorrhoea
- Inhibition of spermatogenesis

- Fluid retention
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Contraindicated during pregnancy due to possible masculinization of the fetus
- Insufficient data on use during breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Consider discontinuation if signs of virilisation develop
- Monitor patients with cardiac failure, renal dysfunction, hypertension, or migraine
- Monitor patients with incomplete statural growth, skeletal metastases of breast carcinoma, or liver dysfunction
- Discourage the use of anabolic steroids to enhance athletic ability
Overdose Effects
- Acute toxicity in animals is very low
- No reports of acute overdosage in humans
