Indications

• Adjunct to specific therapies and dietary measures in pathologic conditions
• Palliative treatment of disseminated mammary carcinoma in women
• Treatment of osteoporosis

Pharmacology

• Injectable anabolic preparation
• Pharmacologically active substance: nandrolone
• Enhanced anabolic and reduced androgenic activity
• Nitrogen saving action
• Relief of bone pain in osteoporosis patients

Dosage & Administration

• Recommended dosage: 25-50 mg every week for pathologic conditions
• Recommended dosage: 50 mg every week for mammary carcinoma and osteoporosis
• Administered by deep intramuscular injection

Interaction

• May improve glucose tolerance
• May decrease the need for insulin in diabetics

Contraindications

• Pregnancy
• Known or suspected carcinoma of the prostate or breast in males

Side Effects

• Virilization in women
• Hoarseness, acne, hirsutism, increased libido
• Amenorrhea
• Inhibition of spermatogenesis
• Premature epiphyseal closure
• Fluid retention

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Contraindicated during pregnancy
• Insufficient data on use during breastfeeding

Precautions & Warnings

• Consider discontinuation if virilization signs develop
• Monitor patients with cardiac failure, renal dysfunction, hypertension, migraine
• Monitor patients with incomplete statural growth, skeletal metastases of breast carcinoma
• Monitor patients with liver dysfunction

Overdose Effects

• Very low acute toxicity in animals
• No reports of acute overdosage in humans
