Dosage Instructions
- Oral administration with water, preferably after meals
Dosage for Adults
- 500-1000 mg per day for rheumatoid arthritis/osteoarthritis/ankylosing spondylitis
- 750 mg initially for acute gout, then 250 mg every 8 hours
- 500 mg initially for dysmenorrhea, then 250 mg at 6-8 hour intervals for up to 5 days
- 500 mg initially for other indications, then 250 mg at 6-8 hour intervals
Dosage for Children
- Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis: 10 mg/kg/day for children over 2 years
- Naproxen Gel: to be applied 2-6 times a day as required

Mode of Action
- Blocks COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, leading to decreased prostaglandin synthesis
Interactions
- Diminishes antihypertensive effect of ACE inhibitors
- Delays absorption with antacids & sucralfate
- Increases adverse effects with aspirin
- Reduces natriuretic effect of diuretics
- Enhances toxicity of methotrexate
- Increases risk of GI bleeding with warfarin and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI)
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Naproxen
- Patients who have experienced asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
- Treatment of perioperative pain in the setting of CABG surgery
