Indications
- Treatment of hypertension
- Can be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents
Pharmacology
- Blocks vasoconstrictor effects of angiotensin II
- Inhibits the negative regulatory feedback of angiotensin II on renin secretion
Dosage & Administration
- Usual starting dose of 20 mg once daily
- May be increased to 40 mg for further reduction in blood pressure
- No initial dosage adjustment for elderly, moderate to marked renal impairment, or moderate to marked hepatic dysfunction
Interactions
- No significant drug interactions reported with digoxin or warfarin
- Bioavailability not altered by antacids
- Not metabolized by cytochrome P450 system
- Potential interactions with NSAIDs, COX-2 inhibitors, and drugs affecting P450 enzymes
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
