Pharmacology
- Inhibitor of gastric acid secretion
- Blocker of hydrogen-potassium-adenosine triphosphatase (H+/K+ ATPase) enzyme system
- Onset of antisecretory effect within one hour
- Maximal effect within two hours
- Inhibition of secretion lasts up to 72 hours

Administration
- Direction for use of IV Injection

- IV infusion period of 20-30 minutes or more
- Intravenous administration only
- Reconstitution of injection

- Use within 4 hours of reconstitution (IV Injection)
- Use within 12 hours when dissolved in saline (IV Infusion)
Interaction
- Decreased intragastric acidity affecting ketoconazole absorption
- Metabolism in the liver through cytochrome P450
- Delayed elimination of diazepam, phenytoin, and warfarin
- Increased plasma concentrations during concomitant administration
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity
- Suspicion of gastric ulcer malignancy

- Dry mouth and stomatitis

- Discontinuation of breastfeeding if essential use
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid concomitant use of clopidogrel
- Association with an increased risk for osteoporosis-related fractures
- Atrophic gastritis in long-term use
