Indications

  • Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with initial and repeat courses of emetogenic cancer chemotherapy
  • Prevention and treatment of post-operative nausea and vomiting
  • Prevention of radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting

Description

  • Orally dissolving film designed to be applied on top of the tongue
  • Dissolves within 20 seconds
  • Does not require water to aid dissolution or swallowing
  • Active ingredient: Periset base

Pharmacology

  • Potent, highly selective 5HT3 receptor-antagonist
  • Precise mode of action not fully known
  • Blocks initiation of vomiting reflex
  • May promote emesis through a central mechanism

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components
  • Concomitant use of apomorphine

  • No evidence of extrapyramidal reactions

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Excretion in breast milk
  • Caution advised during nursing

Precautions & Warnings

  • Hypersensitivity reactions reported
  • Not a drug that stimulates gastric or intestinal peristalsis
  • Caution advised in patients following abdominal surgery
  • Caution advised in patients with chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting

Use in Special Populations

  • Dosage adjustment for patients with impaired renal function
  • Dosage adjustment for patients with impaired hepatic function
  • Little information available for pediatric patients 4 years of age or younger
  • No dosage adjustment needed in patients over the age of 65
