Description
- Orally dissolving film designed to be applied on top of the tongue
- Dissolves within 20 seconds
- Active ingredient: Ondansetron base

Indications
- Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with emetogenic cancer chemotherapy
- Prevention and treatment of post-operative nausea and vomiting
- Prevention of radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 8 mg or 4 mg
- Pediatric dosage: 0.15 mg/kg doses
- Injection: 0.15 mg/kg doses infused intravenously over 15 minutes
- Administration prior to chemotherapy or radiotherapy
- Oral solution and oral soluble film dosages
Mode of Action
- Selective 5HT3 receptor-antagonist
- Mechanism of action in controlling nausea and vomiting
Interaction
- Metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P-450 drug-metabolizing enzymes
- Effects of inducers or inhibitors of these enzymes on clearance
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components
- Concomitant use of apomorphine
Side Effects
- Adverse events: headache, constipation, diarrhea
- Rare cases of anaphylaxis, tachycardia, chest pain, shortness of breath
- No evidence of extrapyramidal reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus in animal studies
- Caution advised for nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Not a drug that stimulates gastric or intestinal peristalsis
- Caution in patients following abdominal surgery or with chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
Use in Special Populations
- Dosage adjustment for impaired hepatic function
- Little information available about dosage in pediatric patients 4 years of age or younger
