Indications
- Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with initial and repeat courses of emetogenic cancer chemotherapy
- Prevention and treatment of post-operative nausea and vomiting
- Prevention of radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
Dosage
- 8 mg tablet/orodispersible tablet for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
- 4 mg orodispersible tablet for radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
- 3 0.15 mg/kg doses for pediatric patients
- Highly emetogenic cancer chemotherapy dosage for adults and pediatric patients
- Moderate emetogenic cancer chemotherapy dosage for adults and pediatric patients
- Pediatric dosage for ages 4-11 years
- Radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting dosage for adults and pediatric patients

Administration
- Tear the pouch carefully along with the edge tear mark
- Put the oral soluble film on top of your tongue. It will dissolve within 20 seconds
- Do not chew or swallow the film whole
- Swallow after the film dissolves
- Wash your hands after taking the oral soluble film
Interactions
- Metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P-450 drug-metabolizing enzymes
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components
- Concomitant use of apomorphine
Side Effects
- Frequently reported adverse events including headache, constipation, and diarrhea
- Rare cases of anaphylaxis, brochospasm, tachycardia, and angina
- No evidence of extrapyramidal reactions
- Rates of events were not significantly different in the Emiston and placebo groups
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Carcinogenic effects were not seen in 2-year studies in rats and mice
- No evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Excreted in the breast milk of rats
Precautions & Warnings
- Hypersensitivity reactions reported in patients with hypersensitivity to other selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonists
- Not a drug that stimulates gastric or intestinal peristalsis
- Should not be used instead of nasogastric suction
- Use in patients following abdominal surgery or with chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting may mask a progressive ileus and/or gastric distension
Use in Special Populations
- Dosage adjustment for patients with impaired renal function
- Dosage adjustment for patients with impaired hepatic function
- Little information available about dosage in pediatric patients 4 years of age or younger
