Indications
- Treatment of diarrhea caused by Cryptosporidium parvum
- Treatment of diarrhea caused by Giardia lamblia
- Treatment of diarrhea caused by Entamoeba histolytica
Pharmacology
- Synthetic antiprotozoal agent for oral administration
- Interference with the Pyruvate Ferredoxin Oxido Reductase (PFOR) enzyme-dependent electron transfer reaction
Dosage & Administration
- 1-3 years: 1 teaspoonful or 5 ml suspension every 12 hours for 3 days
- 4-11 years: 2 teaspoonfuls or 10 ml suspension every 12 hours for 3 days
- 12 years or above: 5 teaspoonfuls (25 ml) suspension or 1 tablet every 12 hours for 3 days
- Recommended to be administered with food
Interaction
Highly bound to plasma protein. Caution should be exercised when administering Nitazox concurrently with other highly plasma protein-bound drugs with narrow therapeutic index.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Nitazoxanide or any components of the preparation
