Product Description
- Orally dissolving film
- Designed to be applied on top of the tongue
- Dissolves within 20 seconds
- Swallowed with saliva
- Contains Emeset base, a selective blocking agent of the serotonin 5-HT3 receptor type

Pharmacology
- Potent, highly selective 5HT3 receptor-antagonist
- Precise mode of action not fully known
- Blocks initiation of vomiting reflex
- Blocks 5HT3 receptors in peripheral and central nervous system
Mode of Administration
- Tear the pouch carefully along with the edge tear mark
- Place the film on top of the tongue
- Do not chew or swallow the film whole
- Swallow after the film dissolves
- Wash hands after taking the film
Interaction Information
- Metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P-450 drug-metabolizing enzymes
- Inducers or inhibitors of these enzymes may change clearance and half-life of Emeset
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components
- Concomitant use of apomorphine
Side Effects
- Frequently reported adverse events: headache, constipation, diarrhea
- Mild or moderate in nature
- Rash, sensation of flushing or warmth, hiccups, liver enzyme abnormalities reported
- Rare cases of anaphylaxis, bronchospasm, tachycardia, chest pain, hypokalemia, shortness of breath reported
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Carcinogenic effects not seen in 2-year studies in rats and mice
- Not mutagenic in standard tests
- No evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus in animal studies
- Caution advised when administered to nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Hypersensitivity reactions reported in patients with hypersensitivity to other 5-HT3 receptor antagonists
- Not a drug that stimulates gastric or intestinal peristalsis
- Should not be used instead of nasogastric suction
- May mask progressive ileus and/or gastric distension
Use in Special Populations
- Dosage adjustment for patients with impaired renal function
- Dosage adjustment for patients with impaired hepatic function
- Little information available about dosage in pediatric patients 4 years of age or younger
- No dosage adjustment needed in patients over the age of 65
