Indications

Mechanism of Action
Selective blocking agent of the serotonin 5-HT3 receptor type
Dosage
- 8 mg tablet/orodispersible tablet
- 4 mg orodispersible tablet
- Injection
Dosage Adjustments
Severe hepatic impairment may require a single maximal daily dose of 8 mg
Administration
- Tear the pouch carefully along the edge tear mark
- Put the film on top of your tongue and allow it to dissolve
- Do not chew or swallow the film whole
- Swallow after the film dissolves
Drug Interactions
Metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P-450 drug-metabolizing enzymes, and may have its clearance and half-life affected by inducers or inhibitors of these enzymes
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components
- Concomitant use of apomorphine

- Liver enzyme abnormalities
Adverse Reactions
- Anaphylaxis
- Bronchospasm
- Tachycardia
- Angina
- Hypokalemia
- Shortness of breath
Carcinogenic Effects
Not seen in 2-year studies in rats and mice with oral Ondansetron doses
Mutagenicity
Not mutagenic in standard tests
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus due to Ondansetron in animal studies
- Caution advised when administered to nursing women
Precautions
- Hypersensitivity reactions reported in patients with hypersensitivity to other selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonists
- Should not be used instead of nasogastric suction
- May mask a progressive ileus and/or gastric distension
Special Populations
- Dosage recommendation same for patients with impaired renal function
- Patients with severe hepatic impairment recommended a single maximal daily dose of 8 mg
