Indications
- Treatment of advanced carcinoma of the ovary
- Adjuvant treatment of node-positive breast cancer

- Second line treatment of AIDS related Kaposi's Sarcoma
- Treatment of Gastric Carcinoma
Pharmacology
Promotes the assembly of microtubules, stabilizes microtubules, inhibits normal dynamic reorganization of the microtubule network
Dosage & Administration
- Pre-medication required to prevent severe hypersensitivity reactions
- Recommended dosages for first-line and second-line treatments for various cancers
- Dose adjustment based on individual patient tolerance
Interaction
- Clearance not affected by cimetidine premedication
- Impact of cisplatin, doxorubicin, and active substances metabolized in the liver on Ontaxel clearance
Contraindications
- Severe hypersensitivity reactions to paclitaxel
- Patients with baseline neutrophils and platelets below specified levels
- Not to be used during lactation or in severe hepatic impairment
Side Effects
- Common side effects such as low blood counts, hair loss, nausea, and more
- Rare side effects like edema, liver problems, and darkening of the skin
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category D, contraindicated during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
To be administered under the supervision of a physician experienced in cancer chemotherapeutic agents, significant hypersensitivity reactions and bone marrow suppression to be closely monitored
Use in Special Populations
- Dose reduction for severe neutropenia or severe peripheral neuropathy
- Caution for patients with hepatic impairment
- Not recommended for pediatric use
Overdose Effects
No known antidote for Ontaxel overdose, treatment to be directed at primary anticipated toxicities
Reconstitution
Ontaxel Injection must be diluted prior to infusion, solutions are stable for up to 27 hours at ambient temperature
