Description
- Indicated for the treatment of diarrhea caused by Cryptosporidium parvum, Giardia lamblia and Entamoeba histolytica
- Synthetic antiprotozoal agent for oral administration
- Interferes with Pyruvate Ferredoxin Oxido Reductase (PFOR) enzyme-dependent electron transfer reaction
- Active in inhibiting the growth of sporozoites and oocyst of Cryptosporidium parvum and trophozoites of Giardia lamblia
- Dosage and administration instructions for different age groups
- Caution required when administering with other highly plasma protein-bound drugs with narrow therapeutic index
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Nitazoxanide or any components of the preparation
- Common side effects such as abdominal pain, vomiting, and headache, as well as rare side effects like nausea, anorexia, and dizziness
- US FDA pregnancy category B, caution needed during pregnancy and lactation
- Administer with caution to patients with hepatic and biliary disease, and renal disease

Indications
- Treatment of diarrhea caused by Cryptosporidium parvum, Giardia lamblia and Entamoeba histolytica
Pharmacology
- Interference with Pyruvate Ferredoxin Oxido Reductase (PFOR) enzyme-dependent electron transfer reaction
Dosage & Administration
- Age 1-3 years: 1 teaspoonful or 5 ml suspension every 12 hours for 3 days
- Age 4-11 years: 2 teaspoonfuls or 10 ml suspension every 12 hours for 3 days
- Age 12 years or above: 5 teaspoonfuls (25 ml) suspension or 1 tablet every 12 hours for 3 days
- Recommended to be administered with food
Interaction
- Caution when administering concurrently with other highly plasma protein-bound drugs with narrow therapeutic index
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Nitazoxanide or any components of the preparation
Side Effects
- Frequent: Abdominal pain, vomiting, headache
- Rare: Nausea, anorexia, flatulence, increased appetite, enlarged salivary glands, increased creatinine & SGPT level, pruritus, rhinitis, sweating, dizziness, discolored urine
