Precautions & Warnings
- Care in administration to patients with severe renal impairment
- Care in administration to patients with severe hepatic impairment
- Hazard of overdose in non-cirrhotic alcoholic liver disease
- Avoid exceeding stated dose
- Avoid concurrent use with other Promel-containing products
- Use only when clearly necessary
Overdose Effects
- Liver damage possible in adults who have taken 10g or more
- Liver damage possible in patients with specific risk factors and 5g or more intake
- Symptoms of overdose in the first 24 hours
- Liver damage may become apparent 12 to 48 hours after ingestion
- Abnormalities of glucose metabolism
- Metabolic acidosis
- Hepatic failure
- Immediate treatment is essential
- Treatment with activated charcoal
- Treatment with N-acetylcysteine
- Management beyond 24 hours from ingestion
