Description
- Premol 500 mg Tablet is used for the treatment and prevention of conditions and symptoms of diseases like Post immunization pyrexia, menstrual cramps, and fever. It is an analgesic and antipyretic medication that obstructs the release of pain and fever chemical messengers in the body.

Pharmacology
- Paracetamol has analgesic and antipyretic properties and weak anti-inflammatory activity. It is thought to act primarily in the CNS by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes involved in prostaglandin synthesis.
Dosage and administration
- Adult: 1-2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours up to a maximum of 4 gm (8 tablets) daily
- Extended Release Tablet: Adults & Children over 12 years: Two tablets every 6 to 8 hours (maximum of 6 tablets in any 24 hours)

Interaction
- Patients taking barbiturates, tricyclic antidepressants, or alcohol may show diminished ability to metabolize large doses of Premol.
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Paracetamol

- Mild side effects are common, including haematological reactions, pancreatitis, skin rashes, and allergic reactions.
Pregnancy and lactation
- Epidemiological studies show no ill effects in human pregnancy due to Paracetamol use. It is excreted in breast milk but not in clinically significant amounts.
Precautions and warnings
- Care is advised in administration to patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment. The hazard of overdose is greater in those with non-cirrhotic alcoholic liver disease.
Overdose effects
- Liver damage is possible in adults who have taken 10 g or more of Premol. Immediate treatment is essential in the management of Premol overdose.
