Pivasta 2 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Adjunctive therapy to reduce elevated cholesterol levels
• Primary hyperlipidemia treatment
• Mixed dyslipidemia treatment

Pharmacology

• Lowers plasma cholesterol levels
• Inhibits HMG-CoA reductase
• Increases hepatic LDL receptors

Dosage & Administration

• Oral administration
• Dose range of 1 to 4 mg once daily
• Recommended starting dose of 2 mg
• Max dose of 4 mg
• Dosage adjustment based on lipid levels

Dosage in Patients with Renal Impairment

• Starting dose of 1 mg once daily for moderate renal impairment
• Max dose of 2 mg once daily for end-stage renal disease
• Not recommended for severe renal impairment

Interactions

• Contraindicated with cyclosporine
• Caution with erythromycin and rifampin
• Administer with caution with fibrates
• No significant interaction with warfarin

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
• Active liver disease

Side Effects

• Rhabdomyolysis
• Myopathy
• Liver enzyme abnormalities

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy Category X
• Contraindicated in pregnant women
• Unknown excretion in human milk

Precautions & Warnings

• Caution in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy
• Increased serum transaminases reported

Overdose Effects

• No specific treatment for overdose
• Symptomatic and supportive measures required
• Unlikely to benefit from hemodialysis
