Indications
- Adjunct to systemic therapy for topical infections
- Treatment of infected surgical incisions
- Prevention of microbial contaminations in burns and incisions
- Prophylactic use for degerming skin
- Treatment of wounds, burns, and lacerations
- Symptomatic treatment of dry eye conditions
- Preoperative and postoperative scrubbing
- Treatment of oral mucosal infections
- Prevention of infections in skin, mucous membrane, and wounds
Pharmacology
- Complex of iodine and organic polymer
- Rapid microbicidal activity
- Broad spectrum of activity against bacteria, viruses, fungi/yeasts
- Non-staining
- Active in presence of soap, blood, serum, and water
Dosage & Administration
- Cream or ointment: Apply once or twice daily for up to 14 days
- Solution: Apply full strength as paint, spray, or wet soak
- Gargle & Mouthwash: Use undiluted or diluted with water, gargle or rinse up to 4 times daily
- Surgical Scrub: Apply as directed for preoperative and postoperative washing
- Powder: Apply a light dusting to affected area
- Ophthalmic Solution: Instill 1 drop 4 times daily or as required
Interaction
Exhibits interaction with strong alkali, sodium thiosulphate, sodium metabisulphite, and thiomersal
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Avoid regular use in patients with thyroid disorders or receiving lithium therapy
- Assess serum iodide levels in severely burnt patients

- Irritation of skin and mucous membranes
- Systemic adverse effects with severe burns or large denuded areas
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy
- Consult physician for breastfeeding compatibility
- Avoid use in pregnant and lactating women unless compelling reasons
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in case of deep wounds, serious burns, or puncture wounds
- Avoid prolonged exposure to wet solution
- Avoid regular use in patients on concurrent lithium therapy
