  • Pharmacology: Complex of iodine and povidone, rapid microbicidal activity against bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and fungi, non-staining, sporicidal, active in the presence of biological fluids and water

  • Side Effects:
    • Hypersensitivity reactions

  • Dosage & Administration:
    • Cream/Ointment:
      • Treatment of infection: Once or twice daily for up to 14 days
      • Prevention of infection: Once or twice a week for as long as necessary
    • Solution: Apply full strength as often as needed as paint, spray, or wet soak
    • Gargle & Mouthwash: Use undiluted or diluted with warm water, gargle or rinse up to 10 mL for up to 30 seconds without swallowing, repeat up to 4 times daily for up to 14 days
    • Surgical Scrub: Preoperative and postoperative washing for operating personnel and patients, use for washing in physician's office
    • Powder: Apply a light dusting to affected area, forms a protective antiseptic layer when dry
    • Ophthalmic Solution: 1 drop 4 times daily or as required
  • Pregnancy & Lactation: Not recommended during pregnancy, usually compatible with breastfeeding, not recommended for compelling reasons during pregnancy and lactation
  • Precautions & Warnings:
    • Cream/Ointment: Consult Registered Physician for deep wounds or burns, discontinue use and consult physician if irritation persists or infection occurs
    • Solution: Avoid 'pooling' beneath the patient, consult Registered Physician for deep wounds or burns, discontinue use and consult physician if irritation persists or infection occurs
    • Gargle & Mouthwash: Avoid prolonged use, not for children under 6 years old, caution in patients on concurrent lithium therapy
    • Surgical Scrub: Caution with broken skin and pre-existing renal insufficiency, avoid regular use in patients on concurrent lithium therapy, may discolor white gold jewellery
    • Powder: Use with caution on known iodine sensitivity, excess powder washes off readily with warm water, not for internal administration
    • Ophthalmic Solution: Caution with blurred vision, contact lens use, and machinery operation after application
  • Storage Conditions: Store below 25°C, protect from freezing and light, keep out of reach of children, do not touch ophthalmic solution dropper tip to any surface, do not use after one month of opening
