Description
- Lactolax is a hyperosmolar laxative used for effective treatment of constipation
- Non-absorbable disaccharide
- Promotes soft stool and accelerates bowel motion
Indications
- Constipation (Chronic and occasional)
- Disturbances in intestinal flora
- Increased blood ammonia levels
Pharmacology
- Synthetic disaccharide
- Metabolized in the colon by saccharolytic bacteria
- Produces low molecular weight organic acids
- Lowers the pH of the colon contents
- Promotes retention of water by osmotic effect
- Increases peristaltic activity
- Minimally absorbed
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 3-6 tea-spoons daily (initially), 1½-6 tea-spoons daily (long-term therapy)
- Children dosage: Varies with age
- Infants and toddlers dosage: Varies with age
- Dosage for damaged intestinal flora
- Dosage for reduction of blood ammonia level

- Hypersensitivity to galactose and lactose
