Pharmacology
- Blocks postsynaptic mesolimbic dopaminergic receptors

- Reduces stimuli to brainstem reticular system
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose of one 25 mg tablet at night for adults
- Increased dosage to two or three 25 mg tablets if necessary
- Different dosage for children
- Elixir containing 5 mg/5 ml for children
- Specific doses for antihistamine and sedative effects
Interaction
- Enhancement of anticholinergic agents
- Interference with immunologic urine pregnancy tests
- Discontinuation before skin tests using allergen extracts
Contraindications
- Not for children less than two years of age
- Hypersensitivity to promethazine or excipients
- Not for patients in coma or suffering from CNS depression
- Avoid in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors
