Description
Phenergan Tablets 25mg are used for the symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions of the respiratory tract and skin. They also act as an anti-emetic and sedative. It is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and exhibits long-acting effects. The tablets are available in different dosages for adults and children and should be used with caution in specific patient groups. Storage conditions require protecting from light and dispensing only on a registered physician's prescription.

Usability Features
- Dosage & Administration:
- Adults: Initial dose one 25 mg tablet at night; may be increased to two or three 25 mg tablets at night if necessary. In allergic conditions, more frequent administration may be necessary, starting with one or two 10 mg tablets and increasing as required
- Elderly: No specific dosage recommendations
- Children: Treatment more conveniently by the elixir containing 5 mg/5 ml, with specific dosages based on age and condition
- Interaction: May enhance the action of anticholinergic agent, tricyclic antidepressant, sedative or hypnotic. Alcohol should be avoided during drug treatment
Contraindications
- Children less than two years of age
- Hypersensitivity to promethazine or to any of the excipients
- Patients in a coma or suffering from CNS depression of any cause
- Patients who have been taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors within the previous 14 days
Side Effects
- Nervous System Disorders: Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome, anticholinergic effects, confusion, somnolence, dizziness, headaches, extrapyramidal effects, muscle spasm, tic-like movements, NMS, high fever, muscle cramps, stiffness, fast heartbeat, hallucinations, sweating
- Immune System Disorders: Allergic reactions, urticaria, rash, pruritus, anaphylaxis
- Skin and Subcutaneous Tissue Disorders: Photosensitivity reaction
- Metabolism and Nutrition Disorders: Anorexia
- Gastrointestinal Disorders: Epigastric discomfort, dry mouth
- Eye Disorders: Blurred vision

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings
- Reye's Syndrome: Avoid in children and adolescents with signs and symptoms suggestive of Reye’s syndrome
- Lung Conditions: May thicken or dry lung secretions and impair expectoration, caution in patients with asthma, bronchitis or bronchiectasis
- Coronary Artery Disease: Use with care in patients with severe coronary artery disease
- Glaucoma: Use with care in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma
- Epilepsy: Use with care in patients with epilepsy
- Hepatic Insufficiency: Use with care in patients with hepatic insufficiency
- Renal Insufficiency: Use with care in patients with renal insufficiency
- Bladder Neck Obstruction: Caution should be exercised in patients with bladder neck obstruction
- Pyloro-duodenal Obstruction: Caution should be exercised in patients with pyloro-duodenal obstruction
Overdose Effects
- Children: Various combinations of excitation, ataxia, incoordination, athetosis, and hallucinations
- Adults: May become drowsy and lapse into a coma; convulsions may occur
- Treatment: Supportive with attention to maintenance of adequate respiratory and circulatory status. Convulsions should be treated with diazepam or other suitable anticonvulsant
