Indications

• cough relief
• runny nose relief

Pharmacology

• antitussive
• decongestant
• antihistamine
• central action on cough center
• shrink blood vessels
• symptomatic relief
• competitive histamine H1-receptor antagonist
• mild central nervous system depressant

Dosage

• for adults & children 12 years and older
• for children 6 to under 12 years
• for children 2 to 6 years
• not for children below 2 years old

Administration

• take with or without food
• measure liquid doses carefully
• use measuring device provided

Interaction

• interaction with MAO inhibitors
• avoiding certain medications
• exercise caution with antihistamines, antispasmodics, beta blockers, drugs for Parkinson’s disease, guanethidine, inhaled anesthetics, tricyclic antidepressants, anti seizure drugs, medicine for sleep or anxiety, muscle relaxants, narcotic pain relievers, psychiatric medicines

Contraindications

• avoid in patients with liver disease
• avoid in asthmatic patients
• avoid in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 2 weeks from stopping such treatment
• avoid in case of known hypersensitivity to specific components
• avoid during acute asthma attacks
• avoid in patients with severe hypertension or severe coronary artery disease

• avoid driving and operating machinery while on this medication
• avoid alcoholic drinks
• use with caution in patients with epilepsy, prostatic hypertrophy, glaucoma, hepatic disease, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, patients with stenosing peptic ulcer, pyloro-duodenal obstruction, or bladder neck obstruction
• consult physician if symptoms do not improve within one week or are accompanied by high fever

• respiratory depression
• paranoid psychosis
• delusions
• hallucinations
• convulsions
• treatment measures for respiratory depression and hypertensive effects
