Indications

  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
  • In combination with appropriate antibacterial therapeutic regimens for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with peptic ulcer disease

Pharmacology

  • Suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the gastric H+/K+-ATPase at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell

Dosage

  • 20 mg for active duodenal ulcer and active benign gastric ulcer, once daily in the morning
  • 20 mg for erosive or ulcerative gastro-esophageal reflux disease, once daily for four to eight weeks
  • 20 mg or 10 mg for long-term Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease maintenance
  • 10 mg for symptomatic treatment of moderate to very severe Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease
  • 5 mg or 10 mg for pediatric patients (1 to 11 years of age)
  • 60 to 120 mg once daily for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
  • Combination therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication
  • Dosage adjustment may be necessary based on patient response and condition

Administration

  • Should be taken in the morning, before eating
  • Tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed

Interaction

  • Potential interaction with compounds whose absorption is pH dependent
  • Co-administration with ketoconazole or itraconazole may result in decreased antifungal plasma levels
  • No interaction with liquid antacids observed
  • Not recommended to be co-administered with atazanavir

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
  • Contra-indicated in pregnancy and during breastfeeding
