Indications

  • Treatment of active duodenal ulcer
  • Treatment of active benign gastric ulcer
  • Treatment of symptomatic erosive or ulcerative gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Maintenance therapy for gastro-esophageal reflux disease
  • Symptomatic treatment of moderate to very severe GERD
  • Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
  • Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with peptic ulcer disease

Pharmacology

  • Inhibits gastric acid secretion by suppressing H+/K+-ATPase
  • Characterized as a gastric proton-pump inhibitor

Dosage

  • Recommended oral dose for active duodenal ulcer and active benign gastric ulcer is 20 mg once daily
  • Recommended oral dose for erosive or ulcerative GERD is 20 mg daily for 4-8 weeks
  • Maintenance dose for GERD is 20 mg or 10 mg once daily
  • Treatment of pediatric GERD varies based on weight and age
  • Recommended starting dose for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome is 60 mg daily
  • Recommended eradication therapy includes rabeprazole, clarithromycin, and amoxicillin

Administration

  • Tablets should be taken in the morning before eating

Interaction
