Indications
- Treatment of active duodenal ulcer
- Treatment of active benign gastric ulcer
- Treatment of symptomatic erosive or ulcerative gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Maintenance therapy for gastro-esophageal reflux disease
- Symptomatic treatment of moderate to very severe GERD

Pharmacology
- Inhibits gastric acid secretion by suppressing H+/K+-ATPase
- Characterized as a gastric proton-pump inhibitor
Dosage
- Recommended oral dose for active duodenal ulcer and active benign gastric ulcer is 20 mg once daily
- Recommended oral dose for erosive or ulcerative GERD is 20 mg daily for 4-8 weeks
- Maintenance dose for GERD is 20 mg or 10 mg once daily
- Treatment of pediatric GERD varies based on weight and age
- Recommended starting dose for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome is 60 mg daily
- Recommended eradication therapy includes rabeprazole, clarithromycin, and amoxicillin
Administration
- Tablets should be taken in the morning before eating
- Tablets should be swallowed whole, not chewed or crushed
Interaction
- May interact with pH-dependent compounds like ketoconazole and itraconazole
- No interaction with liquid antacids observed
- Should not be co-administered with atazanavir
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
