Indications
- Treatment of active duodenal ulcer
- Treatment of active benign gastric ulcer
- Symptomatic treatment of erosive or ulcerative gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Long-term management of gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Symptomatic treatment of moderate to very severe GERD
- Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
- In combination with antibacterial therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication
Pharmacology
- Suppresses gastric acid secretion
- Inhibits the gastric H+/K+-ATPase
- Characterized as a gastric proton-pump inhibitor
Dosage
- 20 mg once daily for active duodenal ulcer and active benign gastric ulcer
- 20 mg once daily for four to eight weeks for erosive or ulcerative GERD
- Maintenance dose of 20 mg or 10 mg once daily for long-term management of GERD
- 10 mg once daily for symptomatic treatment of moderate to very severe GERD
- 5 mg or 10 mg once daily for 12 weeks for pediatric GERD treatment
- Starting dose of 60 mg once daily for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome with potential titration to 120 mg/day
- Combination therapy for H. pylori eradication
Administration
- Take in the morning before eating
- Tablets should be swallowed whole
Interaction
- Potential interaction with pH-dependent compounds like ketoconazole or itraconazole
- No interaction with liquid antacids observed
- Atazanavir absorption is pH-dependent and should not be co-administered with rabeprazole
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Contra-indicated in pregnancy and during breastfeeding

- Risk of cross-hypersensitivity reactions

- No dosage adjustment for renal or hepatic impairment
- Not recommended for use in children
