Description
- Gastro-resistant tablets indicated for the treatment of duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, and Helicobacter pylori eradication
Dosage
- 20 mg once daily for duodenal ulcer and benign gastric ulcer
- 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks for erosive or ulcerative GERD
- 20 mg or 10 mg once daily for GERD maintenance
- 10 mg once daily for symptomatic GERD without oesophagitis
- 5 mg or 10 mg once daily for pediatric GERD
- 60 mg once daily for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
- Eradication therapy for peptic ulcer disease with specific antibiotic regimens
Administration
- To be taken in the morning before eating
- Should be swallowed whole without chewing or crushing
Interaction
- Potential interaction with ketoconazole or itraconazole leading to decreased antifungal plasma levels
- Absorption of atazanavir is pH-dependent and should not be co-administered with Rabepra
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Contra-indicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding
Side Effects
- May cause headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, constipation, dry mouth, and changes in appetite
- Rarely may lead to muscle pain, drowsiness, and dizziness
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Classified as US FDA pregnancy category 'C'
- Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to potential excretion in human milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Symptomatic response does not exclude malignancy
- Long-term use may modestly increase the risk of hip, wrist, and spine fractures
- Risk of cross-hypersensitivity reactions with other proton pump inhibitors
- May lead to hypomagnesaemia, hepatic enzyme abnormalities, and gastrointestinal infections
Pediatric Uses
- Not recommended for use in children due to lack of safety and efficacy data

- Symptomatic treatment with no specific antidote known
- Effects are generally minimal and reversible without further medical intervention
