Indications

  • Active duodenal ulcer
  • Active benign gastric ulcer
  • Symptomatic erosive or ulcerative gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease Long-term Management (GERD Maintenance)
  • Symptomatic treatment of moderate to very severe gastro-esophageal reflux disease
  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
  • Combination therapy for eradication of Helicobacter pylori

Pharmacology

  • Suppression of gastric acid secretion
  • Inhibition of H+/K+-ATPase
  • Classification as a gastric proton-pump inhibitor

Dosage

  • Recommended oral dose for active duodenal ulcer and active benign gastric ulcer
  • Recommended oral dose for erosive or ulcerative GERD
  • Maintenance dose for long-term GERD management
  • Symptomatic treatment dose for moderate to severe GERD
  • Pediatric dose for GERD
  • Recommended dose for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
  • Recommended eradication therapy dose for H. pylori

Administration

  • Morning intake before eating
  • Caution against chewing or crushing the tablet
  • Swallowing the tablet whole

Interaction

  • Potential interaction with pH-dependent absorption compounds
  • Co-administration with ketoconazole or itraconazole leading to decreased plasma levels
  • No interaction with liquid antacids
  • pH-dependent absorption interference with atazanavir

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to active substance or excipients
  • Contra-indicated in pregnancy and during breastfeeding
