- Suppression of Gastric Acid Secretion
- Inhibition of Gastric H+/K+-ATPase
- Characterized as a Gastric Proton-Pump Inhibitor
Dosage
- Recommended Oral Dose for Active Duodenal Ulcer and Active Benign Gastric Ulcer: 20 mg once daily in the morning
- Recommended Oral Dose for Erosive or Ulcerative Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks
- For Long-term Management: Maintenance dose of 20 mg or 10 mg once daily
Administration
- Tablets should be taken in the morning, before eating
- Tablets should not be chewed or crushed, but swallowed whole
Interaction
- Potential interaction with pH-dependent compounds like ketoconazole or itraconazole
- No interaction with liquid antacids observed
- Atazanavir absorption is pH-dependent, should not be co-administered with PPIs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Contraindicated in pregnancy and during breastfeeding

- Hypomagnesaemia reported after prolonged use
- Potential interference with vitamin B12 absorption
Use in Special Populations
- No dosage adjustment for patients with renal or hepatic impairment
- Not recommended for use in children
