Indications
- Symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea
Description
- Pure intestinal antisecretory active substance
- Rapid absorption and hydrolysis to thiorphan
- Inhibitor of enkephalinase
- Reduces intestinal hypersecretion
- Exerts rapid antidiarrhoeal action
Pharmacology
- Increases availability of endogenous opioids
- Inhibits membrane-bound enkephalinase
- Mediates effect through δ receptor
- Induces selective increase in Cl absorption
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: one capsule initially, then one capsule three times daily
- Children dosage: determined according to body weight
- Different dosage for infants and children based on weight
Interaction
- No drug interactions found
- Joint treatment with Loperamide or Nifuroxazide does not modify kinetics
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Racecadotril or excipients

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women due to lack of clinical data
Precautions & Warnings
- Does not modify usual rehydration regimens
