Pharmacology

  • Competitive blocking of histamine at H2-receptors
  • Inhibition of gastric acid secretion
  • No effect on pepsin secretion, pentagastrin-stimulated intrinsic factor secretion or serum gastrin

Interaction

  • Delayed absorption and increased peak serum concentration with propantheline bromide
  • Minimal inhibition of hepatic metabolism of certain drugs
  • Alteration of absorption of pH-dependent drugs
  • Reduced bioavailability with antacids
