Description
Ethidin (Ranitidine) is indicated for the treatment of active duodenal ulcer, benign gastric ulcer, ulcers associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, postoperative stress ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, GERD, and gastrointestinal hemorrhage. It competitively blocks histamine at H2-receptors, inhibiting gastric acid secretion. The usual dosage is 150mg twice daily for duodenal and gastric ulcers, and 150mg 3 times daily for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It interacts with propantheline bromide, coumarin anticoagulants, theophylline, diazepam, propranolol, and pH-dependent drugs. It is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to Ranitidine and should be used with caution in pregnant and lactating women, as well as in patients with impaired renal and hepatic function. It belongs to the therapeutic class of H2 receptor antagonist and should be stored in a cool and dry place, protected from light.
