Description
- Indicated for active duodenal ulcer, benign gastric ulcer, ulcer associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent, post operative stress ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, and Gastroesophageal reflux disease

- Up to 8 weeks
- 3 times daily for Zollinger Ellison syndrome
- Episodic dyspepsia for up to 6 weeks

- Pediatric dosage of 2-4 mg/kg twice daily
- Slow intravenous injection
- Intermittent intravenous infusion
- Prophylaxis dose
- Peptic ulcer treatment in children at 2-4 mg/kg twice daily
Pharmacology
- Competitively blocks histamine at H2-receptors
- Inhibits gastric acid secretion
- No effect on pepsin secretion or serum gastrin
Interaction
- Delayed absorption and increased peak serum concentration with propantheline bromide
- Minimal inhibition of hepatic metabolism of certain drugs
- Potential alteration of absorption of pH-dependent drugs
- Reduced bioavailability with antacids
