Description

  • Anitid is a medication indicated for active duodenal ulcer, benign gastric ulcer, ulcer treatment and prevention associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, postoperative stress ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and GERD.
  • It competitively blocks histamine at H2-receptors of the gastric parietal cells, inhibiting gastric acid secretion. It does not affect pepsin secretion, pentagastrin-stimulated intrinsic factor secretion or serum gastrin.
  • Dosage and administration covers the recommended dosage for various conditions including duodenal and gastric ulcer, reflux esophagitis, Zollinger Ellison syndrome, episodic dyspepsia, and maintenance doses for preventing recurrences.
  • Interaction with other medications includes delayed absorption and increased peak serum concentration with propantheline bromide, minimal inhibition of hepatic metabolism with certain drugs, and the potential to alter absorption of pH-dependent drugs and reduce bioavailability with antacids.
  • Anitid is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to Ranitidine.
  • Side effects of Anitid are usually uncommon, including altered bowel habit, dizziness, rash, tiredness, reversible confusional states, headache, decreased blood counts, and muscle or joint pain.
  • Pregnancy and lactation considerations advise caution in use during pregnancy and lactation due to the drug crossing the placenta and excretion in breast milk. However, there is no evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus due to Ranitidine.
  • Precautions and warnings suggest reduced dosage in patients with impaired renal and hepatic function.
  • Special population uses include its use in elderly patients, with similar ulcer healing rates and incidence of adverse effects as younger patients.
  • Overdose effects are not expected to have particular problems, and symptomatic and supportive therapy should be given as appropriate. Hemodialysis may be used if required.
  • Anitid belongs to the therapeutic class of H2 receptor antagonists.
  • Reconstitution instructions are provided for slow IV injection, intermittent slow IV infusion, and continuous IV infusion for different conditions.
  • Storage conditions recommend storing in a cool and dry place, protected from light.
