Indications
- Acute and chronic psychoses
- Mania
- Schizophrenia
Pharmacology
- Selective monoaminergic antagonist
- High affinity for serotoninergic 5-HT2 and dopaminergic D2 receptors
- Binds to alpha1 adrenergic receptors
- Binds with lower affinity to H1 histamine and alpha2 adrenergic receptors
- Potent D2 antagonist
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose 2 mg in 1-2 divided doses on 1st day
- Usual dose range 4-6 mg daily
- For mania, initial dose 2 mg once daily
- For schizophrenia, initial dose 1 mg BID
Interaction
- May antagonize the effects of levodopa and dopamine agonists
- Reduces plasma clearance of Rislock when administered with carbamazepine
- May decrease the clearance of Rislock when administered with clozapine
- May enhance the effects of certain antihypertensives

Pregnancy & Lactation

- Excreted in breast milk, therefore breastfeeding not recommended
