Pharmacology
- Selective monoaminergic antagonist
- High affinity for serotoninergic 5-HT2 and dopaminergic D2 receptors
- Binds to alpha1 adrenergic receptors
- Balanced central serotonin and dopamine antagonism
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose 2 mg in 1-2 divided doses
- Usual dose range 4-6 mg daily
- Max. dose 16 mg daily
- Elderly dose adjustment
- Dose adjustment for mania
- Dose adjustment for schizophrenia
Interaction
- May antagonize the effects of levodopa and dopamine agonists
- Reduction of plasma clearance with Carbamazepine
- Decreased clearance with Clozapine
- Enhancement of certain antihypertensives
