Description
- Rosucard is indicated for treating primary hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia
- It is also used for patients with hypertriglyceredemia and primary dysbetalipoproteinemia
- Rosucard is used to reduce LDL-C, total-C, ApoB, non HDL-C and TG levels, and to increase HDL-C
- It helps slow the progression of atherosclerosis
- It is used to reduce the risk of Myocardial Infarction (MI) and stroke
Dosage & Administration
- Usual dose range is 5-20 mg/day, maximum recommended dose is 20 mg/day
- Dosing should be individualized according to the recommended goal of therapy
- For very high cholesterol and high risk of MI or stroke, 40 mg per day is prescribed
- For homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the recommended starting dose is 20 mg per day
Pharmacology
- Rosuvastatin is a selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase
- It increases the number of hepatic LDL receptors on the cell surface
- It inhibits hepatic synthesis of VLDL, reducing the total number of VLDL and LDL particles
Indications
- Used for patients with primary hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia
- Indicated for patients with hypertriglyceredemia and primary dysbetalipoproteinemia
- Recommended for pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
Interaction
- Remarkable drug interactions with Cyclosporine, Gemfibrosil, Lopinavir/Ritonavir, atazanavir/ritonavir, and coumarin anticoagulants
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to product components
- Not recommended for patients with liver disease, pregnant women, and nursing mothers
Side Effects
- Common adverse events include headache, myalgia, constipation, asthenia, abdominal pain, and nausea
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Should be administered to women of childbearing age only when conception is highly unlikely
- Therapy should be discontinued immediately if the patient becomes pregnant
Precautions & Warnings
- Prescribed with caution in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy
- Therapy should be discontinued if markedly elevated creatinine kinase levels occur
Overdose Effects
- No specific treatment in the event of overdose
- Supportive measures should be instituted as required
